
My background
My life has been one continuous international journey. Born in South Africa, I spent my childhood in Australia, Wales, India, Malaysia, and Scotland before returning to my parents' roots in Copenhagen at age nine. There, I learned Danish, volunteered for a year as a Combat Engineer in the Danish army, completed a Master's in Physics at the Niels Bohr Institute, and began a PhD in Mathematics at the Technical University of Denmark before discovering that teaching was my true calling. After earning my teaching certificate, I entered the IB world at Copenhagen International School in 2007. Marriage brought me to Hong Kong, where I've taught Science, Mathematics, and Physics at Chinese International School since 2009.
My teaching is driven by a deep appreciation for truth, beauty, and excellence. I approach Physics and Mathematics with a blend of creativity, curiosity, and honesty, using their commitment to rigour to foster independent, critical thinking. I believe a scientific mindset is one of the most powerful tools we can give young people as they inherit a world shaped by climate breakdown, ecological collapse, nuclear risk, and the unpredictable rise of artificial intelligence. My goal is to inspire genuine passion through innovative lessons in a relaxed, "coffee house" atmosphere, balancing informality with intellectual depth. Students consistently describe my classroom as "challenging, fun, inspiring, thought-provoking, collaborative, and organised."
My most meaningful moments have always unfolded in my daily interactions with students and colleagues. Learning is, after all, a social endeavour—something the COVID-19 pandemic made unmistakably clear. I am grateful to all those who have contributed to my continuous development.
